Day 12: January 12, 2011

This is a photograph I took this summer while in Charleston, SC. I thought it was appropriate for how I was feeling today, so forgive me for its age. :)

"Scripture tells us that there is evil in the world, and that terrible things happen for reasons that defy human understanding. In the words of Job, “when I looked for light, then came darkness.”
Bad things happen, and we must guard against simple explanations in the aftermath."
-- President Obama

Today I am grateful for the heroism showed by individuals in Tucson, Arizona this weekend.
I am grateful for the survivors of this tragedy, but also sad for those
who were lost.
I am grateful for a country that allows free speech, but sad that
Jared Loughner couldn't use his words instead of bullets.
I am grateful for leaders like our President, Gabrielle Giffords, John Roll, Jan Brewer, and others.
Today I am grateful to be an
 American.
